Café of the Week: The Bonython Café Paddington

Nothing could ever hinder for my undying love for Mosman, however it’s hard not to get caught up in the beauty of the quiet the backstreets of Paddington, especially when there's a cafè that comes in the form of a hidden garden oasis. While Mosmanites are usually the ones with suburban envy bestowed upon them, anywhere The Bonython Café is the called the local ‘go to’, proves paradise can be found outside of paradise.

A one block stroll from the thriving Oxford Street shops takes you to an old Victorian style sign letting you know you’ve uncovered the elusive Bonython Café. You’re greeted with a long path surrounded by overhanging foliage and all the succulents you could ever want. The café is located in a courtyard surrounded by creative agencies, hair salons and shared space offices, creating a calm yet productive vibrancy among the jungle-inspired interior.

The casual chalkboard menu reinforces that Bonython is a place to come and relax, recharge, and get some work down in a truly therapeutic atmosphere. Well made, and strong, coffee accompanied by the simple but always nourishing slow cooked porridge with a light dusting of brown sugar can always be relied on. Just in case an extra hit of energy is needed to get you through the day, the poached egg perched atop ricotta and avocado toast is the perfect sustenance to continue ticking off the day’s to-do list.

Bonython is unique, as it truly feels like you’ve stepped into a quiet metropolis, desipite being only metres from one if the busiest streets in Sydney. Whether you’re just stopping by for a quiet coffee in the cabana or refuelling after your retail assault of Paddington, it’s hard not to leave the Bonython café without a smile on your face.
