Four Seasons Resort The Nam Hai, Hoi An Vietnam

This sultry seaside resort is just 15 minutes from the Ancient city of Hội An on Vietnam's central coast, and sits on a private kilometre-long stretch of powdery white sand which has been listed as one of Forbes Best Beaches in the World.

As you step into the open-air lobby which overlooks the cobalt-blue South China Sea, you'll need to take a moment to pick your jaw up off the floor. Once a fishing village - with a historic temple preserved on site - the hotel has retained the traditional Vietnamese architecture featuring grey stone, pagoda style roofs, palm trees strung with lanterns and reflective pools.

All of the resort's stand-alone villas are positioned to optimize the stunning ocean views and artfully combine indoor and outdoor living. The villas range from one to five bedrooms and all are generously proportioned. Some have swimming pools, others sunken bathtubs, and all come with a private butler.

The resort's three swimming pools cascade down three levels from the open-air reception to the beach. Flanked by loungers, palm trees, water features and manicured gardens, each pool has an infinity edge that beautifully merges with the sea beyond. Some pools are family friendly and others are for those over 16 years.

The Heart of the Earth Spa is a haven of calm surrounded by water creating a peaceful environment from the moment you walk in.  The 24-hour resort health club is as good as you will find in any leading hotel in the world.

The Nam Hai have two restaurants. Café Nam Hai offers the perfect pairing of refined Asian design and contemporary fine dining. La Sen is located beneath breezy palms adjacent to the Olympic pool. During the day, snack stone-baked pizzas, local fishermen's catch and Vietnamese comfort foods.  After sunset, traditional musicians enhance the serene setting, but it's the food that takes centre stage, serving an extensive menu of fresh and delicious Vietnamese delicacies.

Nomad's Tip

All villas are excellent, however it's worth splurging on a villa that has it's own pool and direct access to Ha My Beach. Ensure you take advantage of the resort's four daily complimentary shuttles to Hội An where history buffs, art lovers or shopaholics will find nirvana on every lantern-lit street corner.
