Restaurant of the Week: Ogenki Japanese

They say good things come in small packages, and Ogenki Japanese is the perfect example to prove this rule. This teensy Japanese restaurant located in a small side street off Military Road in Mosman is tucked away from the busy traffic. Established by a local family from Japan, Ogenki serves fresh, authentic, quality Japanese food. Staff are very friendly and courteous and are more than happy to assist if there are any special dietary requirements. Guests who choose to dine al fresco are even given a button with which they can summon their waiter at any time - now that's what I call service!

While the Popcorn Prawn, featuring tempura prawn with yuzu, spicy mayo and ao-nori makes an excellent start, nothing rivals the ultra fresh Kingfish jalapeno or the excellent choice of sashimi. Larger courses include tempura and teriyaki dishes, but the most difficult choice is between the Smoky Salmon (smoked in wood chips, marinated in miso served with steamed vegetables) and the Lamb Cutlet (served with steamed vegetables, potato and miso sauce). Sweet offerings include Homemade Green Tea Ice Cream with Black Sesame or Mochi Ice Cream wrapped in Rice cake.
