Café of the Week: The Alchemist Espresso

Located in the leafy backstreets of Cammeray, The Alchemist Espresso has become a favourite amongst loyal locals. There's no surprises why, with this café serving high-quality food with an added wow factor. Easily identifiable by the old Victoria Bitter sign that hangs out the front (once a neighbourhood bottle shop), the interior has been transformed into a welcoming space with a rustic vibe.

The menu offers its own twist on standard café classics and is skewed towards healthy, innovative dishes. The smashed avocado on Bread & Butter Project rye, with balsamic-marinated tomatoes, feta, kale and lemon olive oil is a great way to kick off the day. The technicolour Superfood Salad with colourful green leaves, quinoa, avocado, healthy vegies, toasted pepita seed and fetta is a clean-eater's delight. Don't worry diet-busters, there are plenty of cheat dishes here too, including truffle bacon burgers and everyone's favourite, the bacon & egg roll.

The coffee is excellent as is the range of smoothies. For something a little different try the freshly brewed Chai served over macadamia milk, or the house-made Kombucha with organic green tea and ginger, which is served as a shot with sparkling water and ice.
