Café of the Week: Cooh Alexandria

Longstanding Curl Curl institution Cooh has been giving The Grounds of Alexandria a run for their money ever since their arrival to the area in 2015, and for good reason. Consistent with Cooh’s sterling Northern Beaches reputation, the famous coffee roasters’ latest outpost has seen them expand into even more extensive menu choices, an assortment of Australian wines and an internal bakery kiosk for the masses of creative professionals that work nearby.

Cooh’s large open floor layout and high ceilings breaths a welcome feel of personal space that is increasingly illusive in the contemporary café scene in Sydney. The fresh décor of rattan chairs, woven pendant lighting with Edison bulbs, greenery galore and bright white linens on the outdoor sofas could easily fool you to believe you’re suddenly in a beachside neighbourhood of LA.

Onto the food! It would be an error to miss out on indulging in Cooh’s range of freshly made smoothies, in particular their peanut butter ensemble, accompanied with banana, dates and coconut milk. Upon reading the lunch menu it becomes clear that ordering a few plates to share would be the best course of action, as each dish is composed of a multitude of modern dining concepts mixed with classic combinations. Notably, The Grilled Chicken and Kale Salad and the Seared Tuna Salad with Jalapeno Salsa perfectly personifies everything a lunch should be, rich and fulfilling without the burden of a big lunch usually bestows on the rest of the day.

Our advice – try as many dishes as you can. Cooh’s food is undeniably healthy and wholesome, yet no sacrifice is made when it comes to flavour and variety. In short: each dish is more delicious than the last!
